Victor Longoria never expected politics to be part of his life story. He grew up in Sierra Vista in a working-class family where the priorities were simple: Work hard, look out for each other, and make sure tomorrow is a little better than today. But over the years, as costs have risen, wages have stagnated, and basic necessities have slipped further out of reach for working people, Victor began to feel what so many Arizonans feel: The system isn’t just broken, it’s drifting away from the people it’s supposed to serve.
Last year, Victor had to step back from campaigning to recover from heart surgery that repaired a congenital atrial septal defect, a literal hole in his heart that had gone unnoticed for much of his adult life. Getting that care shouldn’t be a luxury. He was lucky to find top-tier doctors in Southern Arizona, and that experience deepened his resolve: No one should have to fight or go broke to receive lifesaving treatment. Healthcare isn’t abstract to him, it’s personal.
Victor is running now because he knows the window to step up and serve is limited. He doesn’t want to look back wishing he had taken his shot, not for ambition, but for duty and the opportunity to serve the people of Southern Arizona. He believes Arizona’s families deserve someone who will fight for them with the urgency this moment demands. Someone who knows firsthand what it means to work, to struggle, to heal, to raise a family, and to build a life on this Borderland.
He doesn’t need this job. He wants to do this job for the right reasons. This campaign is about giving ordinary people the fair shake they deserve. It’s about building a government that listens, a community that stands together, and a future where hard work actually pays off.
